Hello,

I recently purchased a new computer with the following specifications:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D
Motherboard: Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite WiFi7
RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB AMD Expo, 64 GB (2x32), DDR5 6000 MHz, CL30
SSD: Samsung 9100 Pro, 2 TB, M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen5, R14700/W13300
Graphics Card: Gigabyte AMD Radeon RX9070XT Aorus Elite OC, 16 GB GDDR6
Power Supply: Be Quiet! Dark Power 13, 1000W, 80+ Titanium, modular, ATX
Cooler: Be Quiet! Silent Loop 3 420 mm
Sound Card: Creative SoundBlasterX AE-5 Plus, 5.1, PCIe
Case: Be Quiet! Shadow Base 800 FX, E-ATX, RGB, glass, black (5 Light Wings 1500 RPM fans)

I experimented with BIOS settings (PBO):
PPT 280000
EDC 180000
TDC 180000
Core voltage offset negative 15
Cinebench showed these scores (default settings reached up to 84-85 c multicore, around 43500-43600):

Multi-core: 43132 - peak 75 c in 1 min
Single-core: 2274 - peak 57 c in 1 min
Multi-core: 43013 - peak 76 c in 10 min
Single-core: 2287 - peak 56 c in 10 min
Multi-core: 43168 - peak 77 c in 30 min
Single-core: 2279 - peak 57 c in 30 min

With a -20 offset, performance improved slightly compared to defaults, but after extended tasks the system would freeze. I adjusted the offset to -15 and completed all tests without freezing.

I reduced GPU voltage to -80 in Adrenalin and increased memory clock to 2700 MHz. This resulted in:
- 7689 in Steel Nomad test and 28518 (32398 graphics, 16990 CPU) in TimeSpy test
Furmark also performed well with a hotspot up to 85 c before undervolting.

Fan curve details:
- Case and cooler fans: 40% at 40°C, 50% at 60°C, 70% at 70°C, 85% at 80°C (100% at 85°C)
- Hysteresis: 5°C, Response: 1 s
- Pump: 80% between 40–60°C, full speed at 60°C
- GPU: 20% at 30°C, 36% at 50°C, 52% at 56°C, 68% at 63°C (100% at 70°C)

Zero fan speed on the GPU was disabled because the SSD temperature rose to about 50°C without fans running.

These idle temperatures (ambient ~25°C) are:
CPU (Tctl/Tdie): 48°C
CCD1: 33°C
CCD2: 33°C
All cores: 28–30°C
L3 Cache (CCD1 & CCD2): ~30°C
CPU IOD Hotspot: 48°C
CPU IOD Average: 41°C
CPU VDDCR_VDD VRM: 48°C
CPU VDDCR_SOC VRM: 47°C
CPU VDD_MISC VRM: 50°C
Chipset 1: 47°C
Chipset 2: 51°C
System1: 32°C
PCH: 50°C
PCIEX16: 40°C
VRM MOS: 46°C
DDR5 DIMM (SPD Hub): 39°C
DDR5 DIMM (SPD Hub): 38°C
SSD Drive: 42°C
SSD Drive: 2×44°C
SSD Drive: 3×42°C
GPU Temperature: 32°C
GPU Memory Junction: 56°C
GPU VR VDDC Temperature: 37°C
GPU Hotspot: 34°C
GPU VR SoC Temperature: 39°C
GPU Internal Temperature: 42°C

I wonder if I should be concerned about the CPU idle temperature. Some say it's normal, others think it's slightly high. The fans are quiet at these settings, and I don’t feel the need to boost RPMs for a one-celsius difference.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

There isn't a perfect idle temperature setting. Because idle temperatures change a lot depending on the surrounding environment, cooling methods, fan speed, size, and quantity. (Also includes dust.) That's why idle temperature charts aren't available in component reviews.
For example, your CPU review temperature chart is here:
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-r...3d/24.html
Please note: you can't achieve temperatures lower than the ambient air temperature. Since computers are cooled by outside air, idle temps are irrelevant.
Also, idle temperatures aren't important because even the smallest cooling system can maintain CPU or GPU close to ambient levels. What really matters is how the temperature behaves under load, which shows how well your cooling performs (usually balancing noise and target).
For instance in my Skylake build (full specs with pictures in my profile), current idle temperatures are:
- 27.2°C (ambient)
- 30°C (CPU i5-6600K)
- 42.7°C (GPU GTX 1660 Ti)
- 41°C (MoBo chipset Z170)
- 49°C (OS drive 970 Evo Plus 2TB)
- 35°C (OS backup drive 960 Evo 500GB)
- 33°C (data drive 870 Evo 2TB)
- 36°C (data backup drive MX500 1TB)
These numbers won't apply to you since your setup differs—especially with a 91W TDP CPU versus your 170W TDP CPU. Your CPU will naturally run hotter even during idle.
