Hello, your new PC setup for 3DS Max rendering is performing well with a peak CPU speed of 3.60 GHz under full load and a temperature around 65°C. It’s normal for this level, but if you want higher performance, consider upgrading the cooler or checking thermal paste. Your ML240L v2 and B550 should handle the workload effectively.
About 20-25% quicker when you just enable PBO, it should be around 4.4, just been a while.
I adjusted pbo in bios and achieved a score of 4.7, but it only appears on about half the cores when the CPU isn’t fully loaded. When I enable rendering, all cores stay at 3.5–3.6, yet the temperature drops to just 65°C. I figured I could push it higher since I saw that even 90°C is acceptable for this chip.
It's possible but not assured—upgrades like more RAM or a better CPU cooler are available, though they require expense. Have you turned on XMP in the BIOS? You might also attempt simple overclocking techniques.
When properly tuned, you can reach around 5250MHz on a few cores. This requires enabling PBO and applying significant power limits. The most viable option seems to be an older AGESA version with 1203. If you manage to cool it efficiently, you could achieve 240PPT/160TDC/190EDC, then use the curve optimizer and set all cores to -25, letting it run. These are the power limits I currently use on my 5900X, though not the curve itself. You might need higher PPT and EDC values, and you'll learn about cooling performance quickly.
