Hello everyone, I’m reaching out for some advice before it’s too late. I just moved from Intel to AMD and everything started working fine until I noticed Ryzen Master reporting a high idle temperature of over 70°C. At first, I thought it might be due to poor thermal paste, but after checking again, I realized the readings were accurate. I tried using HWiNFO64 and saw a significant difference between CCD1 and CCD2 temperatures—70°C on one and 39°C on the other. This raises my concern about a possible defective chip. It’s been a bit disappointing so far with this purchase.
The 12-core chip is performing well. Your 6-core idle rates stay under 1%. Did Discord "poppin off" Lol?
It's possible the usage was around 2%, but I think a 5% rate shouldn't push the CCD1 to 70°C, especially after increasing the AIO fan speeds. The 70°C also activates at startup when the loop remains cool.
It's quite unusual for this to occur. The reason it might not appear at idle is because the Ryzen chips perform continuous calculations from sleep to wake. This results in a high power draw during idle, usually around 35-50 Watts. What thermal paste are you using and how did you apply it? I usually recommend the X for optimal coverage with Ryzen.
I thought the problem was resolved by using grizzly kryonaut in X shape and checking the coverage. I then reapplied a fresh layer of thermal paste (Arctic MX4 in X shape). I understand the wattage is a bit higher than what your CPU typically uses, but I still feel like 70°C is too high even during gaming.
70c for doing nothing is completely unreasonable. My chip only reaches those temperatures after roughly five hours of stable small packet testing. Something must be off. The 5 series def runners are hotter than the 3, yet the 5900x shouldn't be running so intensely—especially on just one CCX. Did you adjust any bios settings or similar things?
