I recently purchased a Ryzen 9 5900x to enhance my rig, planning to connect it with an Aorus Master B550/X570. Since the motherboard wasn’t available, I opted for an ASRock B450M Steel Legend running a Ryzen 3 3200G (OC 4.2GHz). I’m considering using the new Ryzen 9 temporarily for gaming, but after switching to a more stable board later, I’ll shift to productivity tasks. My goal is to keep the VRMs intact and avoid any damage. I’m thinking about selling this setup eventually. The current configuration includes the CPU, two 16GB RAM sticks (3200MHz), a B450M motherboard, an RX 570 Sapphire PCIe X16 graphics card, a Corsair RM850x Gold 80+ PSU, Lian Li fans, a 120mm SSD, and a 2TB Seagate HDD. I’m also planning to upgrade the RAM later and add more RGB lighting for better performance.
You might find the results impressive. The Steel Legend doesn't boast a massive VRM, yet it manages an overclocked 8-core CPU. I wouldn't question the 5900X achieving solid boost speeds on that board, particularly with what seems to be a decent cooling solution in your setup.
The BIOS is set for Ryzen 5000, though I’m not sure the VRMs on this board are fully compatible.
The cooling system is built to maintain optimal GPU temperature. This RX 570 operates near 1500mhz, memory runs at 2000mhz and stays under 66ºC even at full load (fan curve adjusted to +/- 75% at 65ºC). It expels hot air outward and upward, ensuring no heat remains trapped inside the case. Regarding pressure, testing shows fan speeds provide a balanced airflow, with lower fans spinning faster than higher ones. Many users prefer placing the side intake on the O11D, but this goes against the GPU’s intended airflow direction.
It makes sense, but it still doesn't mention the temperature rise. Exceeding 120°C will reduce the lifespan of the VRMs, which is important for selling the board. I have the chance to switch the top fans into intake vents, improving airflow to the VRMs. However, this could clash with the exhaust from the GPU, creating a complicated air path and trapping more heat inside the case.
