Hello guys, I have 2 questions that are burning a hole in my pocket. I currently have a really nice PC build that includes all these parts: MOBO: ASUS ROG Strix B550-F Gaming (Wi-Fi) MEM: 32GB DDR4 @3600 Mhz CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x GPU: MSI Ventus 3x RTX 3090 OC Edition DRIVE: Samsung 970 Evo 1TB NVME x2 DISPLAY: ASUS 1920x1080 144 Hz Monitor + ASUS 2560x1440 165 Hz Monitor PSU: Corsair RM1000x 1000W Modular COOLING: Noctua NH-U12S 55 CFM While I am very happy with this computer and what it can do, ive come into the oppertunity to get a Ryzen 9 5900x at a very great price. Ive heard from a friend and online search that my current CPU (R7 5800x) bottlenecks my 3090 a bit in situations that use the CPU more than the GPU. Im curious as to if this is true or not and would like some more opinions on that matter. One game I would love to see a increase in performance in is Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 as I absolutely love the beauty that game gives at maxed out graphics options. Currently I get around 30-40 FPS in that game with my current configuration (is that normal?); would the R9 5900x even give any performance increases? Let me know your thoughts and knowledge before I do another impulse buy! : )
The 5900x won't significantly boost your gaming performance compared to the 5800x's single chip setup. It would be better to save up rather than invest now. The 5800X is currently around $234, and replacing it with a 5900x isn't likely to pay off. You might consider a 5800X3D instead, but they're pricier at the moment and not worth the effort. It's probably wiser to wait for the 7800X3D next year.
I increased my price from 5800 to 5900 without any obvious changes, except the 5900 felt slightly cooler.
