Hey there, I’m seeing a pretty serious overheating issue. When I power on and enter BIOS, my CPU temperature jumps to around 79°C and quickly climbs past 100°C before the system powers down. I just installed a new AIO 240mm and reapplied thermal paste, but adjusting fan speeds hasn’t helped. Could someone help me figure out what’s going wrong? Is the CPU faulty or is there another problem with the motherboard?

Did you take off the lid from the bottom of the cooler? Have you linked the pump to your motherboard? Are you confident it’s installed properly? The problem seems to lie with the cooler itself, not the board or processor.

The cover is missing and it’s connected to the cpu_opt header as specified in the motherboard manual.

Check if the header is set to boot in the BIOS, then try reconnecting the cable or switching it to a different fan port.

Attempted alternative fan header (system fan2) but no adjustment was made.

I question if the problem lies with the CPU or motherboard, fortunately temp problems usually point to cooling issues. Confirm the AIO is working correctly? Are the fans operating? I’d verify your mounting and thermal paste application—photos can help clarify the issue. If everything checks out, the next likely cause is the pump. AIO pumps sometimes fail, and a dead pump isn’t rare. Feel the block (the CPU cover) for any movement? Check for pump RPM readings in BIOS. Ensure all cooler connections are secure.

Yes to the vibrations, yes to RPM. Check out this short clip I’m reviewing: https://share.icloud.com/photos/05cHbx85...G_l998SxAQ

It's quite confusing. You're certain all internal connections are correct—pumps, fans, etc.—but the CPU_OPT warning suggests something might still be wrong. Thermal paste seems like a common concern, though you're not sure if it's the issue. If you're confident in everything else, reaching out to EK for their perspective could help resolve this. I wouldn't claim to be an expert with them, so they might offer valuable insight.

This situation is really confusing me. I thought upgrading to the new ek cooler would fix the issue, but it hasn’t made a difference compared to my old 120mm model. Now I’m unsure what to do next. I’ll contact a local PC repair guy who’s available tomorrow and see if they can help identify the problem in person.

You've dealt with a similar issue before—could be related to the motherboard or CPU. It's wise to have it checked by a professional. This forum is made up of enthusiasts who have plenty of time to help. Good luck finding a fix!
