Ryzen 7 3800X or Intel i7 9700K

Is there anyone who knows which option is superior between the Ryzen 7 3800X and the i7 9700K? I’m unsure which one suits me best since opinions are mixed. My main use is watching videos, browsing the web, and playing games like Rainbow 6. I really need some guidance! Also, I’m building a brand new PC.

Intel generally offers better frames, though the difference isn't huge. Save up until Black Friday or Cyber Monday for the best deals or combo offers. Remember, AMD boards tend to be more affordable and upgradeable, but you'll likely need to invest more in RAM.

If you're satisfied with the 9700k, you'll also enjoy the R5 3600. For gaming, you only need the 3600. Don't waste money on the 3800x or 9700k—this model handles everything you need perfectly.

You mainly watch videos and browse the internet, but only occasionally play games. Save yourself some money by investing in a 3600X or a 9400 to 9600k. You don’t require an 8-core processor. In fact, you likely don’t even need a 6-core one.

That’s the top RAM option I’ve found for your AMD CPU. It really depends on your needs—if you’re not into gaming, you might be fine. Someone mentioned it’s a bit excessive, but that’s probably true.

I’ll also get a VR headset, probably an Oculus Rift. My new PC should last over five years and support the newest games in the future. Still using AMD works for me.
