I earn income from my editing work now. My PC is experiencing thermal problems because it's an Alienware prebuilt model.

The primary reason for the 3800x was the improved multithreading efficiency during editing or executing certain 3D AutoCAD tasks.

It's just around a 3% boost in multi-core speed. I’d rather spend on a better cooler to improve the 3700X performance.

For tasks needing high multithreaded speed and profit, grab the 3900x now.

Maybe choosing a 3700x or 3800x would save you more. A 3600 still outperforms what you have now compared to 6c/12th, and you won’t lose much when reselling. Even a 3300x should beat your current rig, as it’s about the same as a 7700k

Regrettably, the 3900 model remains beyond my budget despite the discount, since it exceeds $200. The 3800 model is just $30 more than the 3700 version.

That's a solid idea, so right now the best approach is to purchase a 3800x. That way I won't need to upgrade anytime soon until at least Zen 4 or 5 comes out. Or whatever Intel decides to release next.

I'd prefer the suggestion from the other poster regarding the 3700x. It seems like it wouldn't be worthwhile.
