You're not being condescending at all! I appreciate the help. 1. I applied a pea-sized amount as I'd normally have applied with intel's consumer cpu's 2. The stock heatsink is a clip/latch system with no screwing in needed 3. Voltage is stock as per bios' optimised defaults 4. I did not - I thought D.O.C.P only affected the RAM? 5. Yep - latest bios. Just for reference what kind of temps do you get at idle and at load (also what do you use to test load temperatures?). Is your case fan setup similar to mine? Cheers!
I found myself puzzled about the Wraith cooler because it clicked into place. Used to AMD’s latch system, I thought the 3700 would behave similarly. DOCP is an overclock profile that can influence various aspects depending on the BIOS maker. From what I understand, I’ve mostly seen it affecting RAM only, but who knows what other surprises it might have. When switching to the stock Wraith cooler, my idle temps stayed between 32-24°C and under full load around 65-70°C (stock specs and paste). After moving to a NZXT Kraken X53 with 4.2GHz OC, I never exceeded 80°C. (Prime 95 small FFT over 48 hours: idle usually 29-32°C). I ran Ryzen Master for the first 24 hours and CoreTemp for the next, but the screws securing the CPU heatsink bracket on the board seem tight enough.
Previous models featured the latch mechanism, which surprised me a lot when I got the 3600. Haha. I went through AMD Athlon, Phenom, Phenom II, FX 8100, Ryzen 3 1200, and all of them used the latch system. My Ryzen 5 3600 came with a screw that really affected my fan setup: three stock Phanteks RGB fans in front (intake and two radiators) plus a 2-bit PowerTouchauqa exhaust at the top and a 3-pack Touchchaqua exhaust from Micro Center with RGB control for $50. I'm confident about it. It adds two extra cores and four more threads, which is impressive for simple tasks. I've been running constant F@H without exceeding 67°C, even during work hours. I understand the water-cooling setup, but these temperatures feel unusual for basic workloads.
It's a bit too hot right now. I plan to skip d.o.c.p tomorrow and might remount the cooler again, but I'm leaning toward using an aftermarket option. How does the Phanteks P400A front look with a separate radiator and fan? Do you have a photo of it? I was thinking about getting a 360mm radiator to prevent this issue.
I believe my CPU fan curves were a bit too gentle since the original cooler was too noisy. I’ve fine-tuned them to reach around 40°C idle, which works well for me. Now it’s time to look for a quieter alternative.
It's great to see your progress! Here are some photos of my setup. I used the GANs included with the case for the radiator—they work well and help maintain a cool temperature with my OC. So far, everything is going nicely. Right now I'm checking the temperatures while F@H.
