Ryzen 7 1700x won't overclock
Ryzen 7 1700x won't overclock
Here is your setup rewritten with different wording while keeping the same meaning and tone:
I have a Ryzen 7 1700X processor
A Cooler Master Masterliquid 240 AIO cooler installed
An Asus ROG Strix B350-f gaming laptop
32 GB Corsair Vengeance Lpx DDR4 3200 MHz memory
Storage options:
- Samsung Evo 750 120GB (OS)
- Samsung Evo 850 250GB
- PNY CS 1211 480GB
Hard drive choices:
- 1 TB Seagate Barracuda
- EVGA GTX 1080 FTW
- EVGA NEX750B with 80+ Bronze PSU
Currently, the system runs at 2933 MHz for DDR4 3200 due to stability concerns. The DOCP profile is in use. Overclocking the CPU causes crashes consistently. I suspect my temperatures are higher than on my Hyper 212 Evo, possibly because I didn’t install the AIO properly—so I reinstalled it and reapplied thermal paste using Noctua NT-H1 with the pea method. During a recent Battlefield session, my CPU temperature reached 74°C, which seems high for this hardware. With what I have, I’m aiming for at least 3.9 GHz.
Additional settings: VDDCR in Offset mode, +Offset voltage auto, VDDR enabled, CPU load line calibration set to high, SOC high, CPU power phase control extreme, and Switching Frequency at 200 Hz.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m planning to return the AIO in about two days and upgrade to an 1800X model. At this point, I feel like giving up on overclocking.
I've reached the point where I think this motherboard isn't working properly. I've tried everything—every video, every article, every forum post. What bothers me most now is that even though I can get 3.5 out of my overclock, the voltage going from .400 to 1.4 is causing a 10c temperature spike while it's idle. My UEFI only supports offset mode for VDDCR CPU voltage, so I can't even reach a static setting. I'm seriously considering selling this motherboard and returning the CPU and cooler. I'm really frustrated.
It seems you're questioning whether BIOS tweaks are being handled correctly. I suggest adjusting BIOS settings directly rather than relying on pre-set OC percentages or GUI tools.
I've reached my decision that this motherboard is terrible. I've tried everything—watched all the videos, read every article, checked every forum. What bothers me most now isn't just the limited overclocking, but the voltage changes from 0.400 to 1.4 which are causing a 10°C temperature rise even when idle. My UEFI only supports offset mode for VDDCR CPU voltage, so I can't even reach a stable setting. I'm almost ready to sell this motherboard and return the CPU and cooler. I'm really frustrated.
