Hello everyone, a friend of mine has just put together a new pc, but whenever he boots it the CPU 5600x goes very quickly to 90+ degrees celsius and shuts down obviously. He didn't even install the OS, this happens in the BIOS. All connections and components seem to be correct and fine. He tried sending back the CPU and having it replaced (both 5600x). same thing happens. He tried changing the mobo. (First B550, second X570) He tried both with AIO liquid cooler and the stock amd wraith cooler, same thing happens. No overclock done, all stock auto settings. Tried disabling Precision Boost in the BIOS Updated the BIOS to latest on the first B550 mobo. (done without the cpu installed obviously) He's using the PSU from his old pc, which was working fine the previous day, before switching. Tomorrow as a last resort he will try with another PSU, maybe also updating the BIOS on the newer X570 mobo, but we don't have much hope. In the meantime is there anything else you guys can think of and recommend? We are really at a dead end and don't know what else to think. The heatsinks are correctly secured, and thermal paste has been applied. Was the protective plastic from the water block cold plate removed? Are the fans connected? If this occurred with several components, it likely indicates a user mistake.
I've verified everything thoroughly. The same issue continues even with the stock amd and wraith cooler included in the CPU case. While it's not ideal for gaming, it should help maintain stable CPU performance in BIOS. It typically lasts between 1 to 2 minutes at the highest temperature, then shuts down. This behavior is unusual.
I share your understanding. If this pattern continues, it’s probably due to the assembly process rather than hardware issues. What method do they use to put everything together? If it stops functioning, it likely means cooling is completely lost and the system hits a critical temperature, forcing a shutdown to safeguard the CPU.
ALSO! What thermal paste are you using or are you just using the stuff off the coolers? My guess is you aren't tightening the cooler down enough and no contact is being made.
I share the opinions of those above me. Also, could you clarify what a PC case is and provide details about cooling options? For example, are there intake and exhaust components? It would be helpful to know if an intake fan is necessary, especially since we've already discussed thermal management. Just remember, any intake won't work well if the case is sealed tightly.
I don’t have any images at the moment. I’ll check with him tomorrow if possible. He installed both the liquid and the fan cooler several times, doing the same action each time. Even if the coolers weren’t functioning well, I don’t believe the CPU temperature in the BIOS would rise that fast. Would it? It actually stays below 90 degrees quickly, not even for two minutes. I can’t keep the system running for even a short period.
