Any port connected to a motherboard operates at its maximum rate; for example, a PCI-e 3.0 SSD functions only at the CPU’s full speed (3.0).
I have some worries about this. I chose an Intel build with a 10600K on a Gigabyte B560M Aorus Pro AX, but the motherboard specs say the M.2 socket only works with 11th gen processors, not 10th. It seems they might have meant 4.0 speed is for 11th gen, while 3.0 would be fine. This uncertainty affected my confidence even though I’m planning an AMD build since I can’t find a 11400. The key distinction lies in the fact that the 11th generation includes four more PCIe lanes compared to the 10th generation. This is why premium M.2 slots on 500 series Intel boards behave oddly. The 5600G maintains the same lane count but operates at 3.0 speeds, allowing it to function properly. However, it cannot reach Gen 4 speeds.
