It looks like they require that bios, though I’m not sure if boards will come with them yet. It seems AMD has been working on support for Zen3 recently, but I’m unsure about future compatibility. I don’t want to buy a board now because it might not work later. I’m curious if manufacturers will release boards that are perfectly matched from the start. I really need an upgrade—this has been waiting a long time. I just want a board and a chip, why is everything getting so confusing?
Many B550 models include BIOS Flashback features, allowing you to insert a USB drive with the newest BIOS and update it directly onto the board—without needing a compatible CPU (such as Zen 2). For instance, the B550-A Pro supports this capability (noting this board specifically because it offers strong value in its segment): Unless you purchase a motherboard from a very recent release that already includes a sufficiently up-to-date BIOS to run Zen 3 by default—then Zen 3 compatibility for Ryzen 5000 processors will be listed on the product packaging, similar to what’s seen with several B450/X470 boards and Zen 2/Ryzen 3000 models.
It will likely resemble the B450 boards. If it mentions Zen 3 readiness, the BIOS should already be installed. This is just my guess.
Absolutely, I missed that feature before too. Someone talked about it in a comment above. It might be worth grabbing one of those boards right now. Or you could wait and see. I'm also wondering if companies like Amazon will update their images or specifications to confirm support for the Ryzen 5000.
Sure, I understand. It will likely take some time, and it's strange not having a fully confirmed compatible board yet. I think manufacturers might release more details in the coming weeks. Thanks!
Sure, I'll wait a bit. I was considering picking one now since I already know my chip preference. But there wasn't enough information yet. I'll think about the features I need and estimate the board type. Once we have more details or the chips are announced, I'll grab the board. Thanks again!
