Ryzen 5 CPU struggling with heat and needing extra cooling solutions
I assembled a compact ITX system for the living room using the cm nr200p v2 (not worth it). The build included: Mobo model asrock a520m-atx/ac, Ryzen 5 5600x processor, GTX 1660 Ti graphics, and a 750W Lian Li PSU with an 80P Gold SFX. Since this model only supports an AIO for CPU cooling, I sourced a used 240mm AIO. I installed the cheap cm240ml RGB AIO, powered it up, and within minutes the fans started spinning furiously—after some time the unit cut out completely. Checking the BIOS, temperatures climbed to 115°C before shutdown. After reassembly, I connected the pump cable correctly, removed any plastic from the copper block, and applied fresh thermal paste. I heard loud noises from the pump, suspecting poor water circulation. I tried shaking the radiator to release bubbles but it didn’t help. Eventually, I replaced the AIO with a silverstone vida 240 slim, which fit better. The same problem occurred again: 115°C shutdown. Fresh paste applied, correct cable connection, and the plastic remover worked. I then used a new stock AMD cooler, applied fresh paste, and the system idled at 90°C—same reading as Windows. I updated the BIOS but saw no improvement. Both the motherboard and CPU are second-hand. It might be that the BIOS settings were altered. I’m stuck and need advice on resolving this.
Are you receiving sufficient mounting force from your coolers? If the BIOS configurations have been altered, you can reset CMOS by connecting the two pins at the bottom right. This action will revert any BIOS changes back to default settings.
