Ryzen 5 7600X Ryzen 5 7600X featuring top CPU speed
I've observed an unusually low CPU utilization paired with a high CPU frequency over the past day and a half. Many people might dismiss it as typical behavior, but I've verified the CPU performance from the start. This isn't normal for the machine I own. I'm extremely focused on monitoring temperatures, utilities, and have the AMD Overlay running continuously. Previously, my CPU consistently handled 34-35% usage throughout the day, now it's hovering in the mid-40s to 50s even at times. This issue suddenly appeared two days ago. I've tried everything from BIOS adjustments and YouTube tutorials to modifying power plans and updating AMD drivers, but nothing resolved it. Initially, I thought malware might be involved, so I ran scans with Bitdefender, Windows Defender, and MalwareByte—all came back clean. After that, I installed the driver updates just before the problem started and reinstalled them. I suspect something specific is causing this, or perhaps it's completely unrelated. Anyone have any insight or advice? I'm really struggling and losing sleep over this. This is my last hope for getting my low core frequencies back.
Checked for any changes to your CPU status over the past two days. In Task Manager, the System Idle Process often appears in the Details section with high usage (60-90%), yet its CPU percentage stays under 10%. It seems like a misleading metric that doesn’t reflect actual utilization.
Are the Windows updates turned on? It seems like they were recently applied... My PC has been running this for about 4 to 5 days. After that, I installed "sledgehammer." Now it doesn't seem to be working at all. I can't confirm it's fixed, just that when my CPU is doing random boosts it usually relates to maintenance tasks like optimization or indexing. The defender feature doesn’t appear to be active either.
The only notable action I took was adjusting the fan curves for better airflow and updating AMD drivers. I also installed two new antivirus programs, Bitdefender and AVG, which I later removed using Revo Uninstaller after realizing they consume system resources. Recently, I had my CPU repasted, which is a significant event. Even though I thought high temperatures were due to a heat wave, it might be linked to the increased CPU usage. Why would high frequency exist if most of the CPU isn’t being used?
If you're asking about what's happening, it seems like your system is still experiencing issues despite cleaning and reattaching components. Windows updates can trigger warnings even if the PC isn't shut down or powered off. The process of removing, cleaning, and reinserting hardware is complex and might not always resolve persistent problems. Your temperatures are still high, and the GPU performance isn't improving. You're looking for a stable setup with normal temps around 35°C and lower GPU usage. Let me know how I can help troubleshoot further!
There’s no way to remove the jump in your task manager. However, you can clear the clutter by deleting unnecessary items or using a cleaner interface.
It makes your PC stop doing hour-long "preparations" for the next windows update every week. And it also stops updates altogether. Oh and it "turns off" the MS store (you can enable it all if you want to tho) Aka it makes your PC more smooth, more silent, and indeed cooler. You could always check here if you wanna update or not... https://www.askwoody.com/category/ms-defcon/ Also there's a "new" guy in town! https://www.grc.com/incontrol.htm I definitely prefer sledgehammer, but I think it doesn't work on 11 Windows update service, trusted installer, waasmedic, etc... Watch it all come back in a few weeks... This is the "honeymoon phase"! PS: also that's *not* what I meant with sledgehammer, but it works too I guess (temporarily at least)!
