I aim to create a budget gaming setup with an integrated graphics and upgrade later. I found the Ryzen 5 5600G works well but my funds are limited, so I’m sticking with the MSI B450M Pro VDH MAX. I’m unsure if a BIOS update is needed and whether my existing Athlon 3000G can handle it. Let me know!

We don’t always check this. Factory boards receive updated bios when they launch, and most installed after February 8, 2021, come with a 5600G chip. To check your BIOS version on MSI, examine the barcode on the 24-pin power connector—it shows the manufacturing date. Match that with the BIOS release date for your unit. Alternatively, observe the BIOS indicator light; if it stays off and you don’t boot within 1–5 minutes, the BIOS is outdated—update it to the latest version.
