Checked the Ryzen 5 5500 at $95 and it could be a great choice.

It's significantly more affordable compared to the 5600/5600X, though it sacrifices performance due to a much smaller cache. The price gap is around $20 to $40 depending on location. If you're in the US, expect roughly $40 less for the 5500 and a better GPU would be preferable, but keep in mind the 5500 rarely exceeds $100 unless you're extremely tight on budget.

The Ryzen 5 5500 offers comparable gaming performance to the Ryzen 5 3600. If you're looking for savings, consider purchasing one of these options at a lower cost. A refurbished Ryzen 5 3600 presents an attractive deal.

The 4500 is $78 right now. The 5500 is a better CPU, but not by that much imo. If this is a "forever CPU" situation, then yeah, the 5500 is an ok idea if you're budget constrained and can't do a 5600/5600X. If it's a holdover until you can afford a 5700X or something, get the 4500 instead.

Thanks for the input, this setup works well for a low-budget gaming rig tailored to his preferences.
