Hello, I was testing my CPU using CinebenchR20 and got a score of 3599, which seems a bit on the lower side. Should I try undervolting and overclock it with the built-in cooler, or would just reducing the voltage help performance? I haven’t found any detailed instructions on undervolting, so could you share a comprehensive guide? Thanks a lot!

I’m not familiar with a lot about overclocking and undervolting, but I know that the standard AMD Wraith cooler isn’t ideal for serious overclocking. My Wraith works just fine for my Ryzen 7 1700, though it still gets some high temperatures when playing intense games. It doesn’t usually reach extreme levels.

Slight undervolting can reduce heat output, but may slow CPU performance and limit boost potential. For testing stability, run Prime95 or Aida64 for an extended period—watch for crashes. If stable, gradually lower the voltage further until you hit a safe limit. To overclock, follow the same approach: either increase clock speed to its ceiling or raise voltage for more heat, accepting reduced lifespan.

I’d attempt to turn on PBO in BIOS—it’s an auto-overclocking option. Also, verify your RAM is installed in slots 2 and 4 and that XMP is activated. Could you tell me what motherboard you’re using? Also, installing the chipset drivers might improve performance.

Adjusting voltage can reduce speed. Stick to an overclocking manual, there are many for Zen 2.

I've learned about offset mode or something similar, but it's different from undervolting. It's not the same, and it can be useful depending on your setup. Your motherboard is an Asus B550 M-K, with XMP enabled, RAM set to 3200MHz, and the chips are up to date. It's great that you're checking this!

the cpu isn't at risk of being damaged by overclocking. perhaps back then, it worked fine, but today's chips come with many safeguards against overheating and voltage spikes.
