Ryzen 5 3400G with FrankenRAM setup
Hey there. I've been using my rig for about a year now and recently switched my GPU from a 1050Ti to a 2060 to handle tougher games like MW2. It worked fine, just upgraded the graphics card. However, I've started seeing many games with higher settings dropping below 60fps, especially after driver updates and game patches. I've looked into possible fixes but haven't found a clear reason to upgrade my Ryzen 5 3400G to the 5600 just yet. Recently, I've noticed more DirectX and memory errors. A friend pointed out my RAM setup is a problem—Ryzen needs dual channels for optimal performance. I bought a 32GB DDR4 kit at 3200Mhz, but I mixed memory types before and now I'm unsure if it's worth the change. My current setup has one 8GB stick at 1500Mhz and two 4GB sticks at 1500Mhz, totaling 16GB. I'm worried it won't improve much after the new kit arrives tomorrow, especially given Linus' video about mixing RAM and workloads. Should I stick with the 3400/5600 or upgrade soon?
Upgrade to version 5600 (ensuring BIOS compatibility) and take advantage of the 32GB RAM with XMP/DOHC settings in BIOS. That’s essentially it. Expect a significant performance improvement and noticeably better low-end gaming.
