Hey there... I set up this system with a Ryzen 5 2600x, a B450M PRO-VDH MAX board, 32GB DDR4 RAM at 3200mhz from Corsair, a Kingston SA2000M81000G 1TB NVMe SSD, an RX 6750XT graphics card, a 600W PSU from Radeon, and a MasterAir cooler. The BIOS is defaulting everything to max 3.6GHz and Boost is turned off, so it runs at its base speed. After adjusting the RAM speed in BIOS to 2933mhz (without XMP), my CPU idles around 50-55°C. Recently, I noticed the RAM was dropping to 2133mhz due to BIOS settings. Now it’s stable at about 50°C with occasional spikes up to 91°C when gaming. Since the RAM speed changed, the temperature jumped noticeably—about +10 to +15°C. Is this a normal range for that RAM speed? And is it safe to expect this change? Thanks!

You're probably executing much faster than intended for 2933, which puts pressure on the memory controller. The correct approach would be to apply the XMP 3200 profile and manually set the frequency to 2933. Alternatively, use the Ryzen DRAM tuner to determine the optimal timings for your specific memory. Also, confirm you're using the newest BIOS, check your CPU cooler, and verify the age of the paste.

The issue with XMP was that turning it on overclocked the CPU to nearly 4Ghz, increasing the temperature further. I just installed the Cooler Master MasterAir G100M cooler. The BIOS version is American Megatrends B.B0 from March 2, 2021, and I believe I haven’t updated it. What advice would you give me?

Reduce voltage or adjust the multiplier. I don’t know how best a dram calculator works, but I’d like to search for your RAM model and check online results. Please send a screenshot of the burner and share the current timing settings for all RAM timings (primary, secondary, tertiary, etc.) in your BIOS.

Update the BIOS settings. Visit the manufacturer's support page for B450M PRO VDH MAX. Activate XMP and reduce the RAM clock if it's fluctuating at 3200. Remember, XMP didn't upgrade your CPU. Your initial core might have boosted due to this. The boost frequency of a 2600X is 4.2GHz, which is typical. Turning off the CPU's internal boost isn't advised. MasterAid G100M is a poor cooling solution.

I’m considering replacing the sink. The Noctua NH-U12S Redux looks like a good deal and fits my space. I’m planning to use XMP settings to maintain 3600Hz, but the temperature problems still exist—about 10-15°C higher than when using 2133Mhz memory. I tried this before and will give it another shot just in case they improved it.

The Cooler Master MasterAir G100M has a reputation for poor performance. Many users notice high temperatures with this model. It seems unlikely your 2600X is running well there. Would you consider investing in a tower cooler instead?

I plan to purchase a new tower cooler after my holidays next month. I've been looking into the Noctua NH-U12S Redux because it's reasonably priced and fits my MicroATX case. Thanks for your feedback and ideas!
