So I own a Ryzen 5 1600 and wanted to discuss my overclocking journey with everyone here.
My setup includes:
Ryzen 5 1600
MSI B350M Motherboard
8GB Ballistix Ram 2400
I've been attempting to push the stock cooler to a 3.8Ghz clock, which many other R5 users have achieved successfully, but my processor still struggles.
Most people can reach stable overclocks around 1.25v, while others manage around 1.35v.
My chip, however, consistently crashes at 3.8Ghz when running at 1.35v within about 20 seconds on OCCT.
I then tried pushing it to 1.38v and it crashed in under a minute as well.
Finally, I reached 1.4v, the highest I'm comfortable with, but the system still crashes within a minute. I've updated my BIOS to the latest version, yet nothing has changed.
I've also noticed temperatures quickly rise to around 75-77°C before a complete black screen appears—maybe this is related?
I'm either making a huge mistake with my settings or my chip is just not performing well. What do you all think?

Well for one. Ryzen can OC but it is not a strong OCer. It's been proven a few times now. Secondly, it kinda of sounds like you just lost the silicon lottery with your chip. Not much you can do about that.
Everyone's overclocking settings are going to be different. No one scheme can be applied to all systems as they act differently depending on the hardware installed.
Try tweaking what you feeling safe doing to get to the GHz you want. If it is not leveling out and obtaining stable results through benchmarks. Then you are OCing to high for your exact chip.

It seems you're suggesting you might want to upgrade your cooler or choose a better one before trying to overclock. It's not necessarily the issue, but...

when you overclock the CPU, RAM adjusts accordingly—raising voltage on RAM and/or increasing its timings. This setup works well with the 212 Evo cooler (30$)...my ideal sweetspot is 24/7 OC on stock V with a Ryzen 5 1600 at 3.725GHz, clock speeds of 2966hz 14-14-14-30-52, and the stock cooler delivering 30% idle and 64% under load (212 Evo).
