I get that it's tough to say, but it's obvious the only right choice now. Otherwise, you'll lose your money (just in case we don't talk about the used market). I'm sure what I'm saying is switching from a 200g model this year to a 1200. It was affordable and I had an old GPU, but it's not a good investment.

My board can handle it. I’m not concerned about the issue. Right now I’m dealing with limited funds. We just purchased a new home and all expenses are accounted for. I only have $175 remaining in my savings account and need to get this computer set up.

I considered the 1200 first, but I thought the 1600 would give me better value.

Always think about a 1400.4c8t. It could be nice with a slight chip.

If you locate something, it might be available elsewhere. There aren't any listings on Amazon.

I’d probably buy them on eBay myself. They’re likely to be under $100. Not a popular CPU, but I suspect a 1500/X model exists too.

I understand your concerns about the used market, but I’m sharing this because it seems reasonable: there’s an eBay seller offering 1600X CPUs for over $109 plus shipping. They have 174 reviews, all generally positive except one neutral comment about a charger mix-up. They’ve previously sold computer parts—like Polaris cards—and that’s a good sign. Over the past 10 years, they’ve had 72 positive sales and just one neutral case, which I’d consider acceptable. By 2021 standards, this price feels fair, especially if you’re okay with a slightly older chip. If anything doesn’t match the description or causes issues, you have 30 days from delivery to return it at their cost through eBay’s process—but most sellers will help without involving them. I’m suggesting this as a solid choice if you need something reliable and don’t want to waste money on cutting-edge hardware right away.

I think I might try eBay, but mostly for local deals. The Facebook marketplace feels too crowded. If I choose eBay, what would you expect from a $175 budget? I plan to stretch it and upgrade the setup, maybe swapping in a new GPU if possible.

These online marketplaces are not ideal for AMD CPUs. They’re very vulnerable to damage and hard to hide when something goes wrong. Running tests means entering someone’s home or a hidden area, which can be risky. If you’re just looking for a temporary solution before upgrading, the 1600X is a better choice. The shipping cost is high, but it’s reasonable by 2021 standards. I recommend focusing on Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 models from earlier generations. Be aware that your Athlon cooler may struggle with the 1600X’s performance and noise levels, especially if you stick with the stock cooler. If you’re limited to a 2700, consider buying an aftermarket cooler for $20-25 to keep up with the 8-core processors. For more details, check this example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/363591923715

I own a 212 Evo from a previous build. I’m confident it should work with any of the CPUs you mentioned.
