Hello everyone, I recently acquired a Lenovo IdeaPad 5 (spec sheet included in the name). My aim is to run Arch Linux without sacrificing performance, driver compatibility, Dolby audio, or certain Lenovo conveniences like the quick battery profile switcher. So far, I'm using Windows 10 Home and planning to install a customized version of Windows 10 2019 LTSC once I resolve the driver setup for Arch. I’m familiar with Manjaro, Linux Mint, Ubuntu, and have some experience with Arch, but my knowledge is limited. Previously, I tend to revert to Windows since it’s the OS I grew up with regularly. Now I’m aiming to make Linux my primary operating system, and I’ve heard Manjaro is getting Ryzen models soon—could that be a viable path? Any guidance on obtaining the necessary drivers for the IdeaPad 5 hardware would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and take care, Dexterous Fox

Most device drivers run on the Linux Kernel. You’ll need to install Linux or start a Live setup to test what functions properly and adjust accordingly. Performance should remain intact. Dolby Audio is unclear—likely you meant something else. You’ll likely find PulseAudio useful; check pulseeffects for potential enhancements. https://github.com/wwmm/pulseeffects is a good resource. https://github.com/rickysarraf/laptop-mode-tools/wiki also available in the AUR.

The Dolby audio feature appears to function similarly to PulseAudio. For consistent sound output across videos, audio, and other media, I’m considering using Wine to run Windows applications. I’m hoping it performs adequately enough to maintain some Lenovo capabilities.
