Ryzen 3rd gen initial help request.
Ryzen 3rd gen initial help request.
You installed a Ryzen 5 3600 with MSI B450 gaming pro carbon max Wi-Fi and 16 GB RAM. On startup, the motherboard displayed intense error lights for about five minutes before you decided to investigate further. Recent reports suggest that Ryzen 3rd generation may have significant memory compatibility problems, potentially delaying initial setup by up to half an hour. Your specs include a Ryzen 5 3600, MSI B450, RTX 2070, and Corsair components—consider allowing extra time for testing if issues persist.
The original Zen chips experienced some memory problems, but Zen 2 is stable unless the DIMMs run at excessively high speeds. A 3000Mhz clock speed is fine. Even with slow boot times, I've never seen a post lasting over 30 minutes. The Threadripper modules that take a long time to start only take a few minutes. For a new system, I’d update the BIOS to the latest version if you haven’t already. Verify your motherboard manual to confirm DIMM placement—typically slots 2 and 4 from the CPU side.
Initial boot problems differ and can be quite frustrating, connecting clear CMOS pins sometimes eases the issue (also try removing and reinstalling RAM, possibly due to a bad connection). It's not something you can simply fix with a BIOS update and shut down without worry of harm. Updating the BIOS isn't advised when facing problems because it could damage the motherboard.
I completed everything. Restored CMOS, repeatedly reset RAM and CPU. The only attempt wasn’t a fresh RAM module—my Ryzen setup still functions with Intel. Maybe the issue lies in the CPU memory controller?
