Ryzen 3600 repair inquiries and advice
I have had a Ryzen test system now for close to 2 years. It has a R3 1200 (quad core) in it. Friday I will be getting a Zen 2 3600. The system has a Phanteks P400 case. A Coolermaster 240mm AIO. Team Group 8GB 2x4GB DDR4 3200mhz B-die memory. Can get it to 14 Cas but running it at 15 Cas @ 3200mhz. MSI B350 Carbon Gaming Pro motherboard. Looks identical to the x370 Carbon Gaming Pro. I am semi retiring my signature Intel rig. Built in 2013, modified and upgraded several times over the years. Back to they Ryzen system. I upgraded the bios to the latest bios 10/1/2019. So it's ready for the 3600 CPU. I need 16GB of ram. Though B-die is nice to have, I got it before they charged a premium for it. The performance increase over what you can get in late 2019 is not worth the price premium for 1-3% performance gains. I was thinking DDR4 3200mhz 16-18-18 kits. The other consideration is an NvMe drive either 512GB or 1TB drive. The MSI board has the Christmas lights LED show tied into the P400. So I was thinking RGB memory kits and even a RGB M.2 NvME SSD. This is still a test system for me. It's kind of a recycled and retooled build. I am planning on doing a all new system build but I may wait until Zen 3. I will still use my GTX 970 but an AMD 5700 is probably going to replace it before the end of the year. Here is the XPG RGB XPG S40G 512GB RGB 3D NAND PCIe Gen3x4 NVMe 1.3 M.2 2280 Internal SSD (AS40G-512GT-C) This was as low as $65 a few days ago. Lastly, I do not think 1st gen Ryzen motherboards can go over 3400mhz. So I think I will stick with 3200mhz ram kits. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
What I am thinking is a 2X 8GB 3000 or 3200mhz kit to be run @ 16-16-16 or whatever I can get out of it at 3200mhz. I have several SSD's already that I can use just to get it going well. I could always run 8GB of ram but I don't think that is enough. This is a hold over system. I was thinking about getting a 2600 for $110 but got the 3600 for $175. The GTX 970 is still a little beast of a card @ 1080P. My B350 will run any kind of ram with any timings up to at least 3200mhz. I have read 3400mhz is about all the 1st gen Ryzen boards can do. I will post test results once i get it up and running. It's got a Seasonic 620w power supply. I played the waiting game for many months. My 3570K just doesn't cut it anymore for running dual monitors and many streams.
