You have an older 1660Ti and are considering pairing it with a 3600. The bottleneck calculator suggests this setup is too strong for your processor, though you're aware those estimates can be off. You're currently using a Ryzen 1600 at 3.8GHz.

I utilize my PC for various tasks and I might require a CPU upgrade depending on the demands.

The Ryzen 5 3600 offers significant performance improvements over the Ryzen 5 1600. Avoid relying on bottleneck calculators, as they often don't reflect real-world impacts. Upgrading later is possible, but the 1600 remains a solid choice. For greater processing power, the 3600 is highly recommended. Make sure to update your BIOS for optimal results.

I play games (mainly Fortnite) and stream, I should note I'm using the new nvenc because streaming is a CPU-heavy activity.

It's a viable choice now, but remember that upcoming consoles will feature 8-core Ryzen processors, which might make 8 cores ideal in the coming years.

The Ryzen 5 3600X suits only 1080p gaming. For 1440p the Ryzen 7 2700X performs much better. It also shines in workstation tasks where the 3600X struggles significantly!

Check if your PC is struggling to keep up with the game. A 1600 processor should handle Fortnite and most modern titles unless you're aiming for over 100 frames per second.

The idea of 2700x versus 3600 isn't commonly discussed in standard applications. Could you provide more context or sources supporting this claim?

I compete closely, so I strive for consistent 144 FPS and aim for 90fps in the end.

The 2700X offers only a slight improvement over the 3600 in tasks that heavily use multiple threads, mainly due to its weaker performance on a single core. In most cases, the 3600 performs equally well or better than the 2700X, even for gaming at various resolutions.
