I'm trying to set up a home PC with the Gigabyte B450M DS3H, Ryzen 3200G, and 16GB RAM. Despite following all the BIOS instructions—changing chipset, enabling Integrated Graphics, setting UMA mode, adjusting frame buffer size—I still see the GPU using only 2-2.1GB of RAM. Can anyone explain what's going on? I've read everything available, but it doesn't seem to be working.

It's relying on VRAM when your graphics card isn't present, which can leave you unable to proceed.

In its typical operation, igpu works correctly. For performance reasons, a separate GPU is needed if you don't want system memory usage to increase.

You can allocate a specific amount of RAM for the i-gpu, but if it requires additional RAM, it will use more regardless. This behavior isn't unusual.

I’m used to using RAM as virtual memory. My ThinkPad with a Ryzen 5 performed similarly until I reduced its size to 513MB. It connects to a 27-inch 1080p monitor. I’ve only used it for office and home tasks, no games. What’s puzzling me is that others have had success with the same setup. I understand my laptop has a smaller display but it handled the change without problems.

You can reduce it, though I don’t suggest going below 512MB.

Setting it to 512mb still uses 2 gigs for the igpu. If that happens, you might want to clear the CMOS and try again at 512mb, or check if the chipset drivers need updating. Remember, allocating 512mb for the igpu means more RAM will be used, especially if it needs extra for the frame buffer.

I attempted it as discussed, but it kept using 1gb. The device was running low on sleep, which made me overlook clearing the CMOS. I'll share my results soon.
