Hello, your question is clear. You're planning to build a gaming PC using a Ryzen 5 3600 and a B450-M motherboard. You found out that the B450-M supports Ryzen 3 but requires a BIOS update. You're wondering if you need a Ryzen 2 CPU to perform that update before installing the Ryzen 5 3600.

Ensure the motherboard packaging mentions "Ryzen 3000 ready." Confirm with the seller that this detail is present on the box prior to buying.

Msi's maximum boards come with the latest BIOS for Zen 2. Most B450 boards include Zen 2 support or you can check the box if it mentions Ryzen 3000 readiness. If a board doesn't meet the requirement, contact the vendor or computer store to have it updated.

The board might include the required BIOS updates. Otherwise, consider a newer CPU with ongoing support in the latest BIOS version or use the AMD upgrade kit, which should be available after reaching out to AMD. The only drawback is having to wait another week or more for the changes to appear.
