I won't upgrade right away, but I'm considering a 3800X later. I've already boosted my BIOS on the Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 5 x370 board, and the support site says it supports the newest Ryzen 3000 (Zen 2) chips with this update. Anyone else using an x370 board has done this before or faced any problems?
I understood a BIOS update around 450 or 470 and your Ryzen 3000 would be fine. On that 370 motherboard, I assure you the AMD CPU won’t fully utilize your memory controller or anything else. I wasn’t aware of the x370 model. If I were a gambler, I’d expect problems and BSODs if it even works. You’ll get significantly more benefit with a 470 or 450. Ultimately, you should invest in the x570 if you want to maximize performance from AMD’s CPU and memory setup, especially since it lacks PCIe 4.0 and multiple lanes. It will run better on the intended platform. Yes, it’s costly, but if I upgrade and install a new CPU, I’ll definitely need the latest motherboard for that chipset.

For real-world gaming, a PCIe 4.0 NVIDIA card on an x570 will perform significantly better and run about 40% faster. Besides the speed boost, more lanes and improved power delivery will contribute to higher performance. The architecture has definitely evolved since the 350 series. Overall, investing a bit more now will pay off later—especially if you plan to upgrade soon. The 3000 series will work well together then.
