Ryzen 3 Questions
I assembled a new computer yesterday featuring a ryzen 3 1200 cpu, an msi b350 tomahawk mobo, gtx 1060 with 3gb memory, 8 gb ddr4 ram, and a 450 watt bronze certified power supply. I set everything up correctly and updated the bios. After installing driver booster and applying all recommended updates, I played League of Legends at ultra settings on 1080p, experiencing significant FPS drops (from 144 fps to 20 fps). I attempted to overclock the processor to 3400 with a 1.2v boost, but the system failed to boot, so I reset the cmos and restored it to default. Am I missing drivers or something that could improve performance?
Ensure a 2x4GB DDR4 setup in dual channel, aiming for around 3200MHz for better performance.
Lowering from 3200MHz to 2666MHz could reduce the impact by only 10 to 15%, but using just one stick may still create minor delays.
This isn't necessarily your specific issue.
Avoid using Driver Booster; instead, download drivers directly from NVidia and the motherboard website.
Check these points:
1) Two memory sticks configured in dual channel
2) Operating at full speed (possibly overclocked)
3) BIOS is current
4) Perform MEMTEST86 for a complete test at www.memtest86.com
5) GPU drivers from NVidia installed
6) AMD chipset driver supported by the motherboard

Check these points:
1) Two memory sticks, dual channel enabled
2) Operating at full speed (may be overclocked)
3) BIOS is current
4) Perform MEMTEST86 at www.memtest86.com
5) GPU drivers from NVidia installed
6) AMD chipset driver from the motherboard site installed
7) Leave CPU settings unchanged for now (large drops aren't resolved by minor updates)
8) Try different games and benchmarks, especially offline ones, to verify stable performance
He maintains an average of around 80 frames per second on medium settings. His hardware includes:
R3-1300X (slightly quicker than yours)
GTX1050Ti (possibly about 60% faster if the CPU isn't limiting it)
2x4GB 2400MHz DDR4 (?)
The question is when his performance drops to around 20 frames per second. If this happens during intense battles with many characters, it suggests a potential issue with either the graphics settings or the CPU, possibly due to insufficient memory bandwidth. You might want to lower the graphics settings to see if it improves things, but if that doesn't help then the CPU could be the problem. I don’t own the game myself to conduct these tests.
OTHER:
If your monitor supports 144Hz, try forcing the game to use Half Adaptive Refresh. If the game doesn’t offer this option (likely), you can adjust it like this:
NCP-> manage 3d settings-> program settings-> add game-> (LOL)-> Vertical Sync-> Adaptive (Half Refresh Rate)-> SAVE
This should stabilize at around 72 FPS (VSYNC ON to prevent screen tearing). If it falls below 72 FPS, VSYNC will be disabled to avoid stuttering, but you may still experience screen tearing.
You should have a minimum of 2666MHz DDR4 in Dual Channel, ideally around 3200MHz to prevent significant CPU bottlenecks. This would mean a 2x4GB at 3200MHz. Reducing from 3200MHz to 2666MHz could only affect 10 to 15% depending on the game, but using just one stick of memory might still cause minor performance issues.
I’m not suggesting Driver Booster is the best choice. Instead, download drivers directly from NVidia (the graphics card manufacturer) and the MOTHERBOARD website.
Things to verify:
1) You’re using two memory sticks with Dual Channel configuration
2) Memory operates at its rated speed (possibly overclocked)
3) BIOS is current
4) Run MEMTEST86 for a complete check at www.memtest86.com
5) NVidia GPU drivers are installed
6) AMD chipset driver from the motherboard support site is present (assuming it exists)
7) Keep the CPU default settings for now—major performance drops aren’t resolved by minor updates
8) Test other games and benchmarks, particularly offline titles, to see if they maintain stable frame rates
So far I’ve fixed my CPU in-game and achieved steady frames between 100 and 144fps on ultra settings. However, I can’t overclock the CPU or adjust RAM speeds. My RAM is a 2x4GB at 2133MHz, but it’s set to 2133MHz instead of the intended 3200MHz. Every time I try to increase either speed, the system won’t boot properly and I’m compelled to reset the CMOS. What could be the reason? Are there any BIOS settings that might help?
