It varies by game and desired performance. However, those older A-series APUs tend to be quite slow in gaming because they rely on the design of previous FX processors.

Upgrading to a Zen (2) chip is key because it opens the door for future GPU upgrades without causing bottlenecks. The 9700 works with a 550, but if you plan to upgrade to something more powerful, pairing it with a stronger CPU will be essential.
