Hey there, I noticed you skipped your heatsink last night due to some personal matters while setting up your Ryzen 3 1200. Would it be safe to keep the dried thermal paste on and try overclocking it to 3.7 with the standard cooler?

No, you must reapply the thermal paste once more. For overclocking, a superior cooler is required, not the standard one.

THartmann9374:
You should reapply the thermal paste again. For overclocking, a better cooler is necessary, not the standard one. The stock cooler works for an OC up to around 3.8ghz. If you haven't installed the paste before, it's fine. Otherwise, new thermal paste is needed.

Could I skip the CPU and avoid using paste? No. It doesn't matter whether the CPU is overclocked or not. If you tried to power on your PC, the CPU would only last a few seconds before failing.
