However, I think the data matches what I see because when my side panel is on my CPU it can spike to 100°C and the PC stops working during mid-gamebench. I've also experienced poor performance due to overheating.
but you are using the stock cooler? you shouldnt really do that.get something simple like a hyper evo like im using. mine (2600x) runs about 72 degrees when full load on cinebench r20 at an oc of 4.1 and in gaming barely hits 60 degrees. and this is all in a room that currently is around 26/27 ambient temp. so your cooler is an issue. they are always just meant to be placeholders. its not some old 4 core 4 thread cpu that a stock cooler can handle just fine.
The CPU in poor condition shouldn’t have passed quality checks. More likely the cold plate or IHS was damaged, or the paste job failed.
Are you allowed to request a return of the item? I understand you've been using it for a while without checking temperatures, and you're concerned about the overheating issues. You mentioned both the regular paste and the thermal Kryo paste still caused problems.
It seems to be about determining the cause of a scratch. If it's scratches, that's unlikely. A poor paste job makes it even less probable.
