Recently my PC has been freezing frequently during gameplay and sometimes even when booting up, which led me to suspect an overheating CPU. Naturally, my first thought was to apply high-quality thermal paste and replace the CPU cooler, but that didn’t resolve the issue. I cleaned the cooler to eliminate dust, which helped somewhat, but it wasn’t enough. I’m now unsure whether the problem lies with a faulty CPU. Also, these temperatures were measured without the case fan running, so the case airflow wasn’t considered.
CPU issues occur sometimes. Do you have any options for optimization? What cooler are you running? How is the fan functioning on that cooler?
No cooling solution at all, not even the motherboard auto OC features. I'm running the stock cooler and the fan seems to be working okay.
It shouldn't be heating up too much with the stock settings in place. That approach doesn't seem like the best solution.
Based on the situation and the motherboard, the default configuration changes (for stability, not peak performance) so your clocks stay steady and the CPU stays cooler. This often causes issues on some Zen 2 boards, especially if the case doesn’t provide good airflow.
Find the Ryzen 2600 in an older case. Use a stock cooler for better performance. Temperatures are quite high—idle around 45°C, gaming peaks at 80°C, Cinebench reaches 94°C. The cooler isn’t great; it just works because I had to wait for an aftermarket one. Make sure Auto OC is enabled and any PBO settings are off.
He shares the same processor as you but stays cooler during idle. While you're seeing around 60°C, he's only about 40°C.
