Ryzen 1700x paired with GTX 1070 in Founders Edition
Hello Everyone ~ Present configuration ^^ - aiming for higher FPS in gaming (PUBG/Valorant). Current average FPS on PUBG is around 90-115 when running both games at 1440p with low to medium settings. During fights it's decent but not ideal, hoping for more consistent performance. Should I upgrade my GPU to something like a 2080/ti while keeping my 1700x? Risk of overloading the CPU if I add that card? I mostly use this rig just for gaming (occasional VHS transfers for the parents). My thoughts: With today's prices, it's tough to justify these upgrades. But if someone can deliver the stable FPS boost I need, I might have no choice. If upgrading my CPU to something like 3700x/3800x or higher means I also need a new motherboard and RAM, then sticking with the current setup might actually hurt performance when paired with the 1700x. Current setup: Ryzen 1700x → 3.9, Cool Master Lite ML240L AIO, GTX 1070 Founders Edition, ASRock AB350 Pro4 board, HyperX Predator Black 32GB DDR4 OC to 2933MHz, Phanteks Eclipse P400 PH-EC416PTG mid tower case.
I assessed the site and saw about a 9% CPU bottleneck with a 2080/ti setup. It seems the main issue might be around 20%. Upgrading hardware could cost over $1000, or maybe it’s better to wait for the RTX 3000 series later this year given the current situation.
1700x could cause performance issues with a 2080 super/t when counting, leading to lower frame rates. Upgrading your GPU likely won’t significantly change your experience. Those frustrating 90fps drops are coming from your CPU, not your graphics card. A better GPU might help more in multiplayer, especially for consistent high refresh rates. I’ve considered a GPU upgrade, but whenever my FPS struggles, my GPU usage stays low and the CPU is under heavy load—common in many competitive games.
