Ryzen 1700 running Linux offers strong performance and flexibility.
Phoronix has conducted a comparison on the 1700 model. It runs about 9 seconds slower during Linux kernel compilation compared to the 1800X, and 11 seconds quicker than the similarly priced 7700K. It has a lower TDP than the 7700K, but also a slower clock speed. This supports my belief that the 1700 offers good value for software development and is suitable for silent builds. Now I just need confirmation that the 1700 indeed has a 65W TDP. Phoronix mentions there are no temperature sensors available for their motherboard in Linux yet. http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=ar...1700&num=4
