I'm looking at a GTX 980 Ti and considering CPU options. I have Ryzen 1400 or Intel i7 2600K to choose from.

They're likely pretty alike, but I'd choose Ryzen fully. With a good B450 board, you can easily switch to the newest AM4 CPU or the next generation when it comes out, and it supports DDR4 RAM, which is now common.

First generation Ryzen performs similarly to fourth generation Intel, making it clearly superior to the second generation. DDR4 3000 or 3200 options are also quite affordable.

There might be challenges in locating a suitable motherboard, though the i7 2600k typically offers solid options.

It varies based on the regional market, and supply can be inconsistent.

That's accurate, the Aus market isn't the most favorable option.

It’s more common to discover a functional used AM4 board rather than one suited for LGA1155.

I can't afford to add RAM and a motherboard to my budget this way.
