I've been working on some outdated parts I found, including an RX580 that was likely used for mining. It ran a Linux emulator (Batocera OS) for months, but now I want to use it on Windows 11. However, whenever Windows starts during the boot process, the system crashes and loops. I can view the BIOS settings, but it restarts immediately when Windows begins. The Ubuntu desktop boots fine, though. I've tried booting from a fresh Windows installer and an ATIFlash setup, but both caused the same issue. I attempted a Windows 10 version instead, but I'm unsure what steps to follow now. Any guidance would be helpful. Thanks.

I'm not a Linux specialist, but I've noticed it tends to handle hardware issues better with Linux compared to Windows. You might want to test a newer version like Windows 10 and see how it performs. Also, try Ubuntu or Mint on a different computer—do they boot into safe mode when using Windows?

Turns out it's not the GPU at all. I tried the RX 580 in another windows system and it worked. I tried this before but it displayed a terrible pixilated artifacting image all over the screen, but I just needed to reboot it I guess. I accidentally recreated this artifacting again on a reboot, and it occurred once when a game started in full screen but an alt tab fixed it. Very weird, but acceptable for what I'm using it for I think, if alt tab fixes it. I tried to boot the system that was failing with a separate GPU and the problem is the same. It will boot into Ubuntu, but it crashes as soon as it sees any windows install. I tried swapping the ram modules and slots, didn't do anything. I think I may try to update the motherboard bios, but I may try the mobo with another CPU. I lent another CPU of the same chipset to a friend, but I'm just waiting on him to get it back to me. Should I just send the bios update or wait on the CPU replacement? I don't really feel like the CPU replacement is nessecary since the PC posts and boots to Linux. I saw some posts suggesting to change the uefi boot option to legacy, but this was already enabled. I don't really know what else I could try. Thanks Edited June 5, 2025 by Compleks31

I changed my motherboard BIOS several times until finally a specific revision launched the Windows installer. I believe version 7A38v1G resolved my issue if anyone faces the same problem. Hardware: -MSI B350M Bazooka -1700x Ryzen -RX580 4gb (MSI Armor) -4gb RAM 2666
