I'm trying to upgrade my 750ti to an MSI RX480 or Rx470 and checking compatibility with Mac OS X. I see some discussions about AMD CPUs not working, but I'm curious if GPUs like the Rx480 are supported. Additionally, I need a spare hard drive for Mac OS X, so I want to confirm it works there too.

It would lack drivers but could handle simple operations. Running it inside a VM wouldn't cause any issues.
