I assembled a PC for a friend and it functions normally until he launches a game. It then pauses for roughly 10 to 15 seconds, after which the screen either goes dark or displays various colors. During this time, fans spin continuously while RGB remains active, but the system becomes completely unresponsive. You can't power it down without shutting down the power supply unit. We suspected a GPU issue and attempted numerous fixes—switching driver versions, undervolting, re-seating the card, etc.—but nothing resolved the problem. We even tested the GPU on his brother’s machine (same components except the GPU) which crashed, confirming the fault was there. We returned it and received a replacement unit that worked perfectly, but now it’s failing again. I’m uncertain what to do next. It seems the GPU is likely the culprit, though I don’t understand why it still crashes after a new one. GPU model: XFX RX 580 8GB CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 4100 3.8GHz RAM: 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200 Storage: 1TB SSD PCIe 4.0 NVMe PSU: 500W OS: Windows 11 GPU Drivers: 24.1.1

The power supply model isn't specified here. Your brother's system is quite old.

It's a Thermaltake Smart 500 W 80+ power supply. This was a cost-effective choice given the budget constraints. We assembled it in early December, but issues began emerging at the start of January.
