RX 5500 XT in a vintage HP Pavilion ready-made setup.
I had an old HPE pavilion setup that I wanted to upgrade for my sister. It originally came with a GT550 and an i5-2400 processor. I replaced the hard drive with an SSD and added an RX 5500 XT graphics card. When everything is installed and the system boots from the SSD, it runs perfectly. Testing the XT in my current Ryzen9 7900 system worked well. However, when I tried to install the GPU in the old setup, it beeped several times before starting, but no video output appeared. I suspect the issue is related to missing AMD drivers. I transferred the SSD and GPU to a new machine, downloaded the appropriate drivers, and installed them there. Now, with the SSD and GPU in place, the system displays the screen but still fails to boot. No error beeps either. I’m unsure exactly what’s wrong, but it seems the driver installation process changed between AMD and Intel systems. I’m stuck without being able to test the PC or install drivers without the GPU on board. Thanks in advance!
Yes, we can provide some basic output. Please confirm if you'd like to proceed with entering bios information, and verify that the SSD is being recognized as a boot device.
No changes needed, the original NVIDIA GPU runs perfectly in Windows without any issues.
The SSD is linked to SATA port 0 and appears in legacy boot settings. It doesn’t seem to be available as a UEFI boot source. Any suggestions?
I believe the main problem lies with the card displaying an image. If the SSD is set up with GPT formatting, it should boot into UEFI, whereas MBR would be required for a different setup. You can adjust the settings, but I wouldn’t suggest doing so without reliable backups.
