Hello, my Lenovo V15 G2 ITL started with the default small battery, so I thought Windows 7 would work. But it didn’t boot at all. After installing Windows 8.1, it still wouldn’t start and kept showing an Internal_Power_faliure message briefly. I haven’t tried anything else yet.

Check Lenovo's support page for your laptop model to find BIOS updates. Applying these updates may fix compatibility problems with your OS.

It seems there could be a hardware issue. Consider using a Linux live USB to test compatibility. Running Windows 10 is also an option—it behaves similarly to older versions and receives updates for several years.

It functioned well on Windows 10 and also on Windows 8.1. I plan to recreate the Windows 8.1 USB version. The main reason for choosing 8.1 was its lower system resource usage, which I hoped would extend battery life. Updated on May 2, 2024 by intelamdallthemisnice

It could be a chipset driver support thing, too. You can try installing the Windows 10 drivers on 8.1, there's a chance they might work. Or just run Windows 10. 8.1 isn't that much "lighter" that it will make an appreciable difference.

I believed it was. It didn't start. I recreated the USB. If I don't fix this, I could end up with a Win 10 1507 USB drive.

You might prefer Windows 8.1 for its familiar interface and compatibility with older software. It offers a balance between modern features and ease of use for some users.

Other versions offered slightly longer runtime, though the latest models faced criticism for poor battery performance linked to less efficient processors.

Unfortunately, the issue stems from missing Intel Graphics drivers. Official versions are available for 6th and 7th generation, while modified versions exist for 8th, 9th, and early 10th. The 11th model is still quite recent.
