Is it possible to run both Windows and Ubuntu on your HP laptop using a dual boot setup with different storage drives?

I'm preparing this step by step now. After installing Windows, run the Linux installer. On the partitioning screen, avoid choosing "Install alongside Windows" to prevent both drives from being combined. Pick "Do Something Else" instead. Find an empty drive and create it first with a 200MB EFI partition, then your main data partition using the root mount point formatted for EXT4. Add a 4 or 8GB partition at the end, formatted as SWAP. If available, set the EFI partition on the 1TB drive as the bootloader location; otherwise it will place it automatically. Click OK to let Linux format the drive. Once installation completes, GRUB will appear on the EFI partition of the 1TB and will detect Windows on the other drive, adding it to the boot menu. Just change the boot order so you start from the 1TB SSD instead of the BIOS.

No, this method isn't identical for KaliLinux.

I usually remove the Windows partition before setting up Linux. After installation, I connect the Windows drive and use update-grub to include Windows in the bootloader.
