Running task with admin privileges on a standard account
Running task with admin privileges on a standard account
I have a particular issue and I’m unsure what to look for. I need some guidance. Basic details: I use Windows 10, work and play on a standard account recently upgraded from admin. I now have an admin account. I want to start Speedfan right after turning my PC on. It requires elevated privileges, but I don’t want to enter my admin password. My autostart is stuck since switching from Windows 7 to 10, though I’ve managed it with Task Planning. I set up a task that runs on system start and user login unless the task is already active. It launches speedfan.exe with elevated rights, but it fails when I log in as standard user. I changed the user running speedfan to admin and the local admin group, but it still doesn’t work. I’m confused about what I’m doing wrong. Any suggestions? These settings seem more suited for managing multiple Windows machines. Side note: I see 32-digit hex codes labeled “tasks” in Task Planning every time I open it, saying they’re unavailable. I don’t want to delete anything because I’m not sure what I’m doing. Any advice?
Ensure speedfan.exe lacks the "run as admin" checkbox in its properties. Next, include speedfan.exe in the startup list. This should resolve the UAC warning.
Log in to the admin account, access Task Scheduler. Click the empty area where items already exist, then choose "Create New Task." Label it appropriately, select the highest privileges, and set the trigger to run when the user logs on or not. Avoid checking the "Do not store password..." option. In the Action tab, click "New" and pick "At startup" from the dropdown. Review the Conditions and Settings tabs and customize as needed. Click OK after completing. (Admin details may be prompted.) You can right-click the new task and select "Run" to test it. If successful, restart your PC to verify functionality.
