Hey there,
I’m considering a new PC setup and thinking about getting the Ryzen 5 2600 with an RTX 2070 and 16 GB RAM at 2666 MHz. Can someone tell me if it’s possible to overclock the CPU to 4 GHz using the stock cooler? If yes, what voltage should I set? And if not, what should I target for overclocking instead?
Thanks a lot, I’m still learning about this!
Thanks!

All CPUs overclock differently. No one can say how well yours will, or what voltage you'll need to overclock to a given speed. You just have to try it. I'd say there's a decent chance you could get it to 4 GHz with the stock cooler, depending on ambient temps and how much fan noise you can accept.

I would bet a low chance of success at moderate temperatures for hitting 4.0 on the stock cooler.

Yes, I understand your point. I've been told that the XMP setting on the X470 chipset can help improve performance. Should I proceed with that?

No, XMP controls RAM speed, not CPU. I wouldn't rely on any auto overclock preset for CPU tuning.
Additionally, the CPU can increase its speed to 3.9 GHz based on temperature and core usage.

K, thanks TJ Hooker! I chose this build.
Could I push the CPU to 4.2 GHz with this cooler? Also, what frame rates should I expect in games like Fortnite, CSGO, PUBG, and Battlefield V at 1080 High resolution?
Thanks!!!!

All 12 threads won't cause the issue if it's loaded—it'll overheat, but it will handle it in half-core bursts. FPS varies per rig, so solid performance is expected in most games. Csgo and Fortnite may struggle significantly, though a 9900k would also face limitations. You have more GPU power than needed for 1080p in most titles.

You might be able to, but I suggest purchasing higher-quality thermal paste and use it rather than the one included—it doesn’t perform well.

I already have my own thermal paste. I think I'll choose this build since I expect to be able to overclock beyond 4 GHz and achieve solid gaming performance.
