Running OSX, Windows and Ubuntu on a Mac is possible.
Hey, I see a bit of a tricky situation with your MacBook setup. You’ve got OS X and Windows 10 installed, split across the SSD, and you’re trying to switch to Ubuntu. The bootloader is acting up, which is causing problems when you try to install Ubuntu. You mentioned issues with both OSes showing up in the bootloader and some weird screen behavior during boot.
If you want to fix this without reinstalling any OS, using a recovery media might help. But be careful—some of the steps could affect your bootloader configuration. You’ll need to carefully follow the recovery process, possibly reinstalling Windows first or adjusting boot options. It’s a bit of a delicate balance between restoring stability and keeping your bootloader functional. Let me know what you try!
I observed something interesting: when I press Option during startup, I don’t trigger the reFind option and instead see the standard OS X bootloader. This was my setup for Boot Camp before. Now I’m using Macintosh HD (OSX works fine), plus two Windows partitions—Ubuntu and another OS. Ubuntu boots into GRUB, letting me pick between it and the Windows installer, which sometimes shows a bad signature error. The other Windows drive also starts Windows with the same blue screen. I think I could rename these drives so Ubuntu appears as “Ubuntu” and fix the Windows install using a recovery disk. Then I could adjust GRUB settings to always launch Ubuntu directly instead of presenting a choice between it and an incorrect Windows option.
Checking if the Windows EFI partition works is important. It may cause issues or be essential depending on your setup.
I quit because no one has the time or expertise to assist. I checked boot-info in Ubuntu with this result: http://paste2.org/5wg145fE. Then I tried boot-repair at https://paste.ubuntu.com/24059953/, and rebuilt the bootrec in the Windows terminal from a recovery drive, but it didn<|pad|> to locate my Windows installation. I had to format the Windows partition and reinstall Windows from scratch. I had to use the install USB in EFI mode, and it needed a GPT disk. I’m stuck. What should I do next?
