Hi everyone, I'm looking into using an old Asus Eee notebook with an Intel N435 N455 processor at 1.66 GHz and 2GB RAM. I plan to connect it to a TV in my room for streaming services like Prime Video, YouTube, and Disney+. What Linux distribution would you suggest for this setup?
This chip can't load videos through a web browser. It's similar to a nearly 20-year-old Pentium 4.
Use W7 and run the tron script to reduce its performance. Download setfsb and increase its speed. Check out some guides on fixing EEE laptops with setfsb. It seems setfsb doesn't work well with Linux, so you'll probably end up with around 1.9–2ghz if you're lucky.
You can still use ChromeOS, but it may depend on your device and software compatibility.
This laptop runs about ten times slower than a free office computer from the mid-2000s. The only thing you’d try to do is watch web videos, which would feel like a strange test of your patience.
Windows XP doesn’t work with a current browser, which isn’t a big deal since the computer’s processor is extremely slow.
