I believed upgrading to an AIO would lower temperatures, but they're consistently around 60°C at idle. For my AMD Ryzen 7 3800X, that's typical or should I investigate further? Also, the frequency boost from 3.9-4.4GHz seems normal, right? Reference image attached.
Increase the strain on it, low idle temps barely matter. Ignoring ambient heat when talking about parts is risky. It’s okay to stay warm in a 18°C room during winter—some people raise their thermostats to 26°C and still wear underwear while using their PC... but now the outside temperature is dropping to 8°C, creating a big gap.
The package warmth tends to exceed the core heat because it accounts for more than just the core's output—other parts like power management also contribute. A 46c idle reading isn't too bad, possibly a bit elevated but not cause for concern. If your gaming temps stay within normal ranges, you shouldn't have any issues.

- Room or ambient temperature at the time of checking?
- What CPU model did you upgrade from?
- Which cooler were you using previously?
- Do you have any load-temperature readings (not just idle)?
- Are you comparing a 240mm AIO cooler to something else?
According to the Armoury Crate, during a no mans sky game it typically ranges between 55 and 60 c.
Under typical room conditions around 23°C, those temperatures are perfectly normal for a Zen 2 CPU using both stock cooling and an AIO. Keep in mind that the AIO takes a bit longer to stabilize and provide consistent readings.
