I managed 3500MHz successfully, probably the upper limit. At 3600MHz it dropped to around 2133, which might indicate an issue with the RAM.
It seems DDR4-4400 MHz might be too high for your i7-8700K. Did you purchase a specific RAM brand and kit? Consider these steps: activate XMP settings to align timings and voltages with XMP standards. Manually adjust the DRAM frequency ratio in BIOS from Auto to lower speeds like DDR4-3600, 3400, 3200, or 3000. If that fails, try further reductions. Remember Intel only backs up to DDR4-2666, so anything above is overclocking. The motherboard’s architecture (such as your AsRock Z390 model) also matters. Keep in mind that Task Manager may display different values—some users see effective speeds, others the rated ones. Your CPU-Z shows 1700 MHz, while Task Manager lists it differently.
