Hi all, this is my first post – I’m looking for assistance.
I need to configure a virtual soundcard inside a hyperV VM and route the audio through our network using Cat5.
We’ve considered DanteVS and a Neutrik device, but Dante requires at least 200 on the VM version…!
Anyone have an alternative solution that could work? Thanks in advance.

You should definitely aim for a more detailed understanding of the task, as current emulation tools may not fully meet your requirements. Would using a genuine sound card be a viable alternative?

Hyper-V doesn't handle audio by default. It's unclear if a virtual sound card could work around this. VirtualBox supports audio directly.

Thank you for your responses. We don't have a VM setup. We require an incoming audio stream through a 3.5mm jack, which must be routed into a device that can connect to our network. The Virtual Soundcard software (on Server2016) should capture this signal from the network, apply any necessary processing, and then transmit it to a streaming platform. I understand the explanation might not clearly outline our requirements.

Consider using an actual sound card with genuine hardware. Alternatively, your standard motherboard audio can work too—just use OBS or similar tools to capture the sound and send it over any network you prefer. There should definitely be a dedicated device that converts a 3.5 jack input into a network stream; many podcasts must have such a standalone solution.

Unfortunately, I'm managing the server while their VM operates offsite. Locate a container that supports this conversion using a virtual soundcard tool I can set up.

So the 3.5 jack operates in a separate area, and the VM must convert the signal into an audio format? Why?! Is specialized editing required for this source? Does the audio tool only accept input from a sound card? Can't you simply capture the audio stream and edit it instead of using the original audio input?
